Candied flowers are a wonderful way to decorate even the simplest dish. They are a wonderful addition to dress up a cocktail party or make a simple cake pop. This simple food craft will wow your friends and make them think you spent hours.

Instructions

  • Cut the stem off the flower with scissors (see Resources for a link to types of edible flowers).
  • Dilute egg whites with 2 teaspoons of water. You can substitute the egg whites with pasteurized liquid egg whites.
  • Brush petals with the egg wash on all sides. Using tweezers to hold the petals will make it easier.
  • Sprinkle the petals with the superfine sugar.
  • Place sugared petals on a baking sheet lined with wax paper and allow to dry.
  • Place the baking sheets in a warm, dry place until the the petals are completely dry. Turn them so that moisture doesn't build up underneath them. It should take 2 to 4 days for the petals to dry completely.
  • Store in an air-tight glass jar. They will keep for about a month.
  • Tips & Warnings

    • Use to garnish food, drinks, desserts or decorate cakes. You can also dip the petals into the sugar and shake off the excess.
